Brigadier Clarence Price

Brigadier Clarence Price was the first Guyanese officer who became Chief of Staff of GDF in March 1969. He was born in 1922 and after starting work as a stenographer in the United States Air Force base at Atkinson Field in 1943, he joined the British Guiana Civil Service, were he enlisted in the South Caribbean Force(SCF) and served in England in the Royal Air Force as a radar operator during the World War 2, attaining the rank of leading aircraftman before being demobilized at the end of the War. He returned to Guyana and joined the British Guiana Volunteer Force (BGVF)as a private solider, being commissioned as the second lieutenant in 1951 to the GDF from the Ministry of Home Affairs where he was Assistant Secretary in charge of defence matters .
