A MESSAGE FROM THE CHIEF OF DEFENCE STAFF OF THE GUYANA DEFENCE FORCE

Officers, Senior Non-Commissioned Officers, and ranks of the Women’s Army Corps, on this significant occasion, I extend unwavering commendations to you, the warriors of the Women’s Army Corps (WAC), as we mark fifty-eight years of steadfast service, discipline, and excellence within the Guyana Defence Force.

Since its formation on 30th January 1967, the WAC has been a force multiplier, breaking barriers, shattering limitations, and proving beyond doubt that courage, commitment, and competence know no gender. We honour the trailblazers, Captain Joan Granger and Cadet Officers Brenda Aaron, Hyacinth King, and Clarissa Hookumchand, whose resilience and pioneering spirit forged the path for generations of female soldiers to serve with distinction and honour.

Today, the women of the Guyana Defence Force are no longer confined to clerical and support functions. You stand shoulder to shoulder with your male counterparts, battle-ready, mission-focused, and resolute in the defence of our nation. Your sacrifices, dedication, and unwavering discipline fortify the very foundation of our Force, embodying the warrior ethos that defines us.

As we honour our past and embrace our future, let this anniversary remind us that excellence is the standard, not the goal. The Women’s Army Corps has earned its place in the history of this Force, and its legacy will continue to shape the battlefield of tomorrow.

To the fearless, unwavering, and steadfast women of the Women’s Army Corps, I salute you.
Stand firm! Stay ready! Forge ahead!
Happy Fifty-Eighth Anniversary!

BRIGADIER OMAR KHAN, MSS
Chief of Defence Staff
