Chief of Defence Staff, Brigadier Omar Khan, MSS, along with Branch Heads and Senior Officers of the Guyana Defence Force, joined His Excellency Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali, President of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana, at the 59th Independence Anniversary Flag Raising Ceremony held at the Albion Community Centre Ground, East Berbice-Corentyne.
In his address, President Ali declared, “The territory of Guyana is a settled fact of history and law,” a firm affirmation of national sovereignty. Throughout the ceremony, Guyana’s territorial integrity and sovereignty was powerfully reinforced.

The evening showcased a spectacular military display of precision and discipline, with troops forming the number 59 in a striking visual tribute. An impressive drum performance added to the energy of the evening, while a vibrant cultural presentation highlighted the rich heritage of Guyana’s six races. This display stood as a living tribute to our national motto, “One People, One Nation, One Destiny,” reflecting the nation’s strength through unity and diversity.
The ceremony culminated in a stirring moment as citizens joined in singing the National Anthem, their voices rising in patriotic harmony beneath the hoisted Golden Arrowhead, followed by celebratory fireworks marking the break of Independence Day.
As we celebrate 59 years of independence, we honour the Guyana Defence Force and Joint Services for their unwavering commitment to safeguarding our nation.
