The Guyana Defence Force , on Sunday, 15 June 2025, conducted a successful medical evacuation (MEDEVAC) mission from Region 1 (Barima-Waini), following an urgent request from the Ministry of Health.

The casualty, a 21-year-old male who sustained critical injuries in a boat mishap, was initially stabilized at the Kumaka District Hospital. Due to the rapid deterioration of his condition, immediate advanced medical intervention was required.

The GDF deployed its Bell 412 helicopter from Base Camp Ayanganna at 2040 hrs. On board were GDF Medic, Corporal Sheena Waithe, and a civilian emergency medical professional. The aircraft arrived at the Bemichi Airstrip in Moruca at 2124 hrs, where the casualty was received, stabilized, and prepared for the journey.

At 2222 hrs, the helicopter returned to Base Camp Ayanganna Playfield, where a GDF medical response team and a waiting ambulance executed a seamless handover for onward transport to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC).

This mission underscores the operational readiness and strategic utility of the GDF’s Air Corps in supporting national emergency operations, particularly in hinterland and hard-to-reach areas.

The Force remains steadfast in its mandate to provide timely, life-saving support in defence of national welfare.

The Guyana Defence Force extends best wishes for the casualty’s full recovery and commends the professionalism and commitment of all ranks and civilian counterparts involved in the successful execution of this critical operation.
