The Guyana Defence Force (GDF) played a prominent role at the University of Guyana’s (UG) just concluded Open Day and Job Fair 2025, actively engaging with students, graduates, and job seekers across both campuses—Turkeyen and Tain, Berbice. Over the three- day event, the GDF underscored its vital contributions to national development, showcased a broad spectrum of career opportunities, and highlighted its multifaceted operations.

At both the Turkeyen and Tain campuses, key GDF units, including the Medical Corps, Coast Guard, Air Corps, 4 Engineers Battalion, Signals Corps, and the General Personnel Department, took center stage. Each unit demonstrated its unique role in national security and development, providing attendees with a comprehensive overview of the diverse professional paths available within the force. The General Personnel Department was instrumental in providing detailed information on enlistment requirements, training programs, and career progression. Attendees were encouraged to ask questions, explore potential career paths, and even take the Entrance Examination for the Basic Recruit Course (BRC). These interactions helped deepen their understanding of the benefits and opportunities associated with serving in the GDF.
The GDF’s exhibits also featured military kits and cutting-edge technology, including drones used for surveillance and tactical operations. These displays not only highlighted the GDF’s modern capabilities but also demonstrated how technology is seamlessly integrated into military operations, capturing the attention of attendees and showcasing the force’s innovative approach to national security.
The GDF’s participation in both events emphasized its commitment to attracting talent and promoting itself as a career-oriented institution offering opportunities beyond traditional military roles. By engaging with young professionals and students across both campuses, the GDF strengthened its community ties and inspired the next generation of servicemen and women to consider a career in the force.
The GDF extended its gratitude to the University of Guyana for the opportunity to participate in this impactful initiative which helped the Force reinforce its role as a cornerstone of national development.
