The Guyana Defence Force (GDF) hosted its annual Inter-Unit Male and Female Cross-Country Competition 2026 at Base Camp Seweyo on Thursday, 12 March 2026. The event brought together athletes from units across the Force in a demanding test of endurance, speed, and tactical pacing. The competition remains a key feature of the GDF sporting calendar, underscoring the Force’s commitment to physical fitness, discipline, and unit cohesion.

Conducted in accordance with the regulations of the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) and the Athletic Association of Guyana, the race adhered to recognised international standards, ensuring a fair and competitive environment for all participants.
In the male category, 1 Infantry Battalion secured first place with a strong display of stamina and teamwork. 31 Special Forces Battalion finished second after a determined effort, while Base Camp Ayanganna completed the podium with a third-place finish, highlighting the depth of athletic talent within the Force.
In the female category, the Coast Guard emerged victorious with an impressive performance. Base Camp Seweyo claimed second place, while the Guyana National Reserve secured third, demonstrating the resilience and competitive spirit of the Force’s female athletes.

The Inter-Unit Cross-Country Competition continues to serve as more than a sporting event. It highlights the camaraderie, discipline, and physical standards expected of members of the Guyana Defence Force while reinforcing the enduring values of teamwork, perseverance, and excellence.
