The Heritage Games 2025 were officially opened yesterday at the Everest Sports Ground with a spectacular parachute display by the Guyana Defence Force Paratroopers. Their dramatic descent into the arena captivated the audience, setting the stage for friendly yet spirited competitions among villagers from across Guyana.

The team was led by Captains Wendell Jeffrey and Kaya Dover, supported by the skill and experience of Sergeants Rock Watson, Ivan Singh, Adrian Alleyne, and Cheddi Dharshan. They were ably joined by Corporals Orlando Norton and Travis Allicock, along with Lance Corporals Sheldon Isaacs and Shamar Bobb, whose precision and discipline contributed to an impressive display. Together, they showcased the teamwork and professionalism that define the Force.

Adding further brilliance to the occasion, Staff Sergeant Stephon Timothy of the 21 Artillery Company executed a vibrant fireworks display, illuminating the night sky in celebration of Guyana’s cultural unity and sporting spirit. Enhancing the ceremonial atmosphere, the Corps of Drums of the Band Corps led the march-past of participating athletes, their rhythmic beat infusing the parade with pride.

This proud participation follows the GDF’s earlier support of Heritage Day 2025 in Nappi Village, Region Nine, where ranks collaborated closely with the community to bring the celebrations to life. From the Rupununi to the capital city, the GDF continues to stand alongside the people of Guyana, not only in defence of the nation, but in service to its culture, traditions, and unity.
