Consistent with its mandate to strengthen operational capability and advance professional military education, the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) Training Corps has concluded the Skill-at-Arms Course, resulting in the successful training of 31 ranks representing various units of the Force.
The course commenced on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, and consisted of six weeks of intensive training. The ranks are now equipped to function as Coaches for stage 1-3 Training the Battle Shot and have improved their overall shooting abilities and weapon handling with platoon weapons and small arms.
As with all military courses, physical fitness and the GDF’s values and standards were integral components of the training. Following the completion of the teaching phase the ranks were tested in five exercises where they competently demonstrated the skills taught.
Three ranks were presented with prizes for outstanding performances: Staff Sergeant Jancyah Cummings (Best graduating Student and Best Shot), Sergeant (SGT) Quancy Alleyne (Runner-up), and SGT Ronald Nurse (Best Coach).
Base Camp Seweyo’s Base Sergeant Major, Warrant Officer Class Two Nayol Lorrimer, delivered the closing remarks and reminded the ranks that they will be expected to share the knowledge they have gained with junior ranks at their respective units.
He encouraged them to embrace mentorship as an integral part of their careers.
