The Inter-Services Annual Athletics and Swimming Championship (ISAASC) 2025 officially commenced today, marking the start of a weeklong display of skill, endurance, and camaraderie among members of the Joint Services.

For decades, this championship has remained one of the most anticipated events on the Joint Services’ calendar. It continues to serve as a platform that not only showcases athletic excellence but also strengthens the bonds of cooperation and unity among the Guyana Defence Force (GDF), the Guyana Police Force (GPF), the Guyana Prison Service (GPS), and the Guyana Fire Service (GFS).

This year’s championship, scheduled from Sunday, November 2 to Friday, November 7, 2025, is being hosted at the National Aquatic Centre and the Base Camp Ayanganna Playfield.

At the start line of the mixed road relay were Chief of Defence Staff, Brigadier Omar Khan, MSS; Commissioner of Police, Mr. Clifton Hicken; Chief Fire Officer, Mr. Gregory Wickham; along with officers and supporters from each Joint Service team. Brigadier Khan officially broke the race, signaling the start of the championship.

The opening day began with the mixed road relay, which set the competitive tone for the week ahead. The GDF team delivered a strong performance, finishing in second place and displaying determination, teamwork, and tactical coordination on the course.

The day’s activities concluded with the Inter-Services Swimming Championship, where the GDF emerged victorious, followed by the GPF, GPS, and GFS respectively. Notable performances came from CPL Aleka Persaud, who secured the title of Champion Female Swimmer, LCPL Latisha Blair, who finished as Runner-Up, and RCT Zara Crane, who placed Second Runner-Up, collectively demonstrating the GDF’s depth of talent and competitive strength in the pool.

With both events contributing to the cumulative score, the GDF currently leads the overall standings. This early advantage reflects the Force’s sustained commitment to excellence, physical readiness, and esprit de corps.

As the ISAASC continues, the GDF remains resolute in its pursuit of maintaining dominance, while fostering the spirit of friendly competition and mutual respect that continues to strengthen the unity of the Joint Services.
