A contingent of 11 Cadets and two Instructors from the Guyana National Cadet Corps (GNCC) departed Guyana earlier this morning to participate in the 2025 Caribbean Cadet Camp, which will be held in Dominica from July 19 to August 2.
Held biennially, the Caribbean Cadet Camp brings together over 300 cadets from across the region under the theme “Empowering Our Youths.” This year’s programme includes a dynamic mix of drill training, weapons handling, map reading, sports competitions, and cultural exchanges , all aimed at fostering leadership, discipline, and regional camaraderie among young participants.
This deployment marks a historic milestone for the GNCC, as it is the first time a Guyanese contingent is participating in the Caribbean Cadet Camp. The opportunity offers a landmark experience for the Corps and its members, exposing them to their regional counterparts while enhancing their personal development and practical skills.
Before their departure from the Air Corps Hangar at the Eugene F. Correia International Airport, the cadets had the opportunity to interact with Commanding Officer, Lieutenant Colonel Keith Watts. During the brief engagement, the cadets expressed gratitude to the Guyana Defence Force for affording them the honour of serving as youth ambassadors on behalf of their country.
The 11 cadets selected for this prestigious assignment represent each of the 11 educational districts across Guyana. Their selection followed a rigorous, multi-tiered process beginning at the school level, where instructors identified the top-performing male and female cadets. These candidates then underwent district-level evaluations conducted by GNCC Headquarters, culminating in the selection of the national team.
The GNCC currently operates in 48 schools nationwide and continues to expand its reach, providing structured leadership and character development opportunities to youth across the country.
The Guyana Defence Force and the GNCC extend congratulations to the selected cadets and wish them continued success as they proudly represent Guyana on this significant regional platform.
