The Guyana National Cadet Corps (GNCC) recently held its 7th Annual Conference and Staff Retreat at the Skeldon Line Path Secondary School, bringing together dedicated educators and staff under the theme: “Preparing our leaders to better confront present and future challenges by enhancing their awareness, adaptability, and agility capabilities.”

The two-day event served as more than just a meeting—it was a dynamic platform for professional reflection, collaboration, and rejuvenation. Participants had the opportunity to expand their networks, set strategic goals, and brainstorm practical solutions to challenges facing the Corps and its mission.

Delivering the keynote address at the opening ceremony was Commandant of the Guyana National Reserve, Colonel Lloyd Souvenir, who underscored the importance of the annual gathering. “This conference is a time for reflection on the challenges we’ve faced, the milestones we’ve achieved, and the road ahead,” he noted. “It is a moment for re-energizing and realignment as we continue to build on seven years of excellent service to the nation.” Colonel Souvenir praised the collective achievements of the GNCC since its inception and expressed heartfelt appreciation for the unwavering commitment of participating educators. “Your participation in this programme is a direct expression of patriotism and a commitment to civic responsibility that extends beyond your role as educators,” he said. “You are the architects of Guyana’s future. Your dedication, hard work, and innovative ideas will shape the next generation of leaders. Let this retreat be the springboard to greater heights as we continue our journey, together, in service of our beloved nation.”

True to its title, the retreat also offered time for relaxation and camaraderie. Staff enjoyed spirited sporting activities, a refreshing park outing, and a fun kite distribution, reinforcing the balance of discipline and enjoyment that the GNCC upholds.

The Guyana National Cadet Corps is a pivotal youth development programme jointly managed by the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) and the Ministries of Education and Culture, Youth and Sport. Through a combination of military training, sports, and educational initiatives, the programme instils the core values of the GDF—duty, discipline, identity, integrity, and loyalty—while shaping the minds and character of future leaders.
