Guyana’s 55th Anniversary as a Co-operative Republic was ushered in with the hoisting of the Golden Arrowhead at the Parliament Buildings on Saturday, February 22, 2025. Lieutenant Seabra Manbode, assisted by Corporal Linden Gilbert, raised the national flag high above the Parliament Buildings symbolising the country’s sovereignty, unity, and progress. As the Golden Arrowhead ascended into the evening sky, its vibrant colours reflected the aspirations of the Guyanese people

The powerful moment served as a reminder of Guyana’s resilience and national pride.

The solemn and patriotic Flag Raising Ceremony brought together esteemed dignitaries, including President Dr. Irfaan Ali, Prime Minister Brigadier (Ret’d) Mark Phillips, Government Ministers, Members of the Diplomatic Corps, Heads of Services, and other distinguished guests.

The ceremonial parade was commanded by Major Farhaan Uthman, with Warrant Officer Class One (WO1) William Richmond, Force Sergeant Major, serving as the Parade Warrant Officer. The Colour Party played a pivotal role in the ceremony. Lieutenant Shaka Williams carried the National Flag, while Lieutenant Jehu West bore the Force Colour. They were supported by Escorts to the Colour, Sergeants Dellon Deabrew and Thelson Griffith, and Colour Custodian, Chief Petty Officer Cordel McKenzie. The Guard of Honour comprised two platoons—one from the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) and the other from the Guyana Police Force (GPF).

Lieutenant Orwin Austin commanded the GDF platoon, assisted by Sergeant Randy James, while Assistant Superintendent Mahindra Singh led the Guyana Police Force platoon, assisted by Sergeant Shane Kippins.

Last evening’s observances stand as a testament to the nation’s enduring spirit, marking another milestone in its journey as a proud Republic.
