On the 1st of January, 2026, the Guyana Defence Force successfully completed its first medical evacuation (MEDEVAC) operation for the year from Bartica to Georgetown, underscoring the Force’s readiness to support national emergency response efforts.

A Bell 412 helicopter was mobilised and configured for MEDEVAC operations and flown under the command of Lieutenant Colonel (Lt Col) Anson Weekes, supported by Flight Engineer Staff Sergeant (SSGT) Dwayne Jackson, Flight Technician, Sergeant (SGT) Joel Yaw, and Air Corps Medic, Sergeant Lemuel Gillette.

Upon arrival in Bartica, the patient was received and prepared for air transport. The patient was accompanied by a family member and a medical doctor from the Bartica Hospital, ensuring continuity of care throughout the flight, while the onboard medic provided the required medical support.

The aircraft then proceeded safely to Base Camp Ayanganna, where the patient was transferred to an awaiting ambulance and transported to a medical facility for further treatment.

The Guyana Defence Force remains committed to providing timely, professional, and coordinated support in response to national emergencies, safeguarding lives through rapid air operations whenever called upon.
