Strategize. Synchronize. Secure
Georgetown, Guyana — Tuesday, 8 July 2025: The Joint Services Coordinating Council (JSCC) convened its latest meeting under the chairmanship of Chief of Defence Staff, Brigadier Omar Khan, MSS, bringing together the leadership of all of Guyana’s disciplined services to reaffirm their collective commitment to national security.
The session underscored the Council’s enduring mission to strengthen security through strategic planning, operational synchronisation, and inter-agency cooperation.
Established as a formal coordinating body during the tenure of Major General (Ret’d) Norman McLean, the JSCC has long served as a vital forum for harmonising the work of Guyana’s Defence Force, Police Force, Fire Service, Prison Service, and other key agencies. This collaborative platform ensures that national security challenges are addressed comprehensively, avoiding fragmented responses and fostering unity of purpose.
In his opening remarks, Brigadier Khan emphasised the importance of sustained cooperation in the face of evolving security threats, including transnational crime, cyber risks, and natural disasters. He reaffirmed the disciplined services’ shared responsibility to “Strategize. Synchronize. Secure.”
Participants reviewed current security priorities, assessed joint operational readiness, and discussed mechanisms for enhancing information sharing. The meeting also addressed avenues for deepening partnerships with regional and international security organisations.
The JSCC’s work continues to exemplify Guyana’s proactive approach to security governance, ensuring that the nation’s disciplined services operate as a unified and professional force dedicated to safeguarding the country’s citizens and interests.
