Lance Corporal (LCPL) Oniesa Williams

Her journey began in 2012 with the Basic Recruit Course, driven by a desire to make a lasting impact. Over the years, she has become a skilled operator of essential machinery, including excavators, wheel loaders, and Bobcats—integral to the GDF’s construction and logistics efforts. Her competence and expertise have earned her the confidence of her male counterparts, who recognize her as a valuable asset to the team.

LCPL Williams has also set her sights on new technical skills in refrigeration and air conditioning, recognizing their practicality and value. “The GDF has provided me with so many opportunities, and I intend to take full advantage of them,” she affirms.

She believes that confidence and determination are key and is adamant that it is not about gender—it’s about skill, commitment, and the drive to learn. LCPL Williams hopes that more women will embrace the challenge and step into non-traditional roles, just as she has.
