Today, we celebrate seven years of the Guyana National Cadet Corps, a testament to our growth, achievements, and unwavering commitment to service, discipline, and leadership. Since its inception, the Corps has shaped young leaders, role models, and responsible citizens, instilling values that strengthen our communities and nation.

Lt Col (ag) Watts

Over the past year alone, we have trained 2,500 Cadets, equipping them with the discipline, resilience, and leadership skills necessary for success. Reports from educators highlight remarkable improvements in student behaviour, responsibility, and leadership, demonstrating the Corps’ positive influence within schools. Beyond their training, our Cadets have excelled in various capacities. The West Demerara Secondary Steel Orchestra, comprised entirely of Cadets, secured first place in the Mashramani Panorama Youth Competition, showcasing teamwork, dedication, and excellence. Similarly, the Cadets of Santa Rosa Secondary made a significant impact by supporting Breast Cancer Awareness initiatives within their region, exemplifying the spirit of service.

The foundation of our success lies in the dedication of our Instructors, who continue to guide, inspire, and instill discipline in our young Cadets. In recognition of their invaluable contributions, 54 Instructors have been promoted within the Senior Non-Commissioned Officers Corps this year, reinforcing our commitment to leadership development and growth within the Cadet Corps.

As we expand, we take great pride in welcoming six new schools—Charlestown Secondary, New Amsterdam Secondary, Brickdam Secondary, Soesdyke Secondary, 8th of May Secondary, and Mahaicony Secondary—into our ranks. This expansion brings our total to 48 schools, a clear indication of the growing importance of the Cadet Corps in shaping the youth of Guyana.

Looking ahead, we anticipate an exciting year filled with opportunities for growth and development. Our Annual Cadet Camp, Instructor’s Retreat, and Expedition will provide Cadets with hands-on leadership training, adventure experiences, and character-building exercises. These initiatives are designed to complement their academic education, fostering well-rounded individuals prepared to lead in any environment. Additionally, we will continue strengthening partnerships with organisations and communities to broaden the Corps’ reach and impact across Guyana.

As we celebrate this milestone, let us renew our commitment to the values that define us. Let us carry forward the proud legacy of the Guyana National Cadet Corps with honour, dedication, and an unwavering sense of duty. Our actions must always reflect our motto: ‘Moulding today’s youth, securing our future.’

To the Officers, Instructors, and Cadets of all eleven battalions, I extend my sincere gratitude for your unwavering service, dedication, and hard work. Together, we will continue to shape leaders, build character, and strengthen our nation.

On behalf of the Chief of Defence Staff, the Commandant of the Guyana National Reserve, and Headquarters Guyana National Cadet Corps, Happy Anniversary, and long live the Guyana National Cadet Corps!
