Students and teachers of the Port Kaituma Primary School were warmly welcomed to Base Camp Ayanganna on a guided educational tour facilitated by the Guyana Defence Force (GDF).
The visit formed part of the school’s learning enrichment activities, providing students with a firsthand experience of the Force’s operations and its vital role in national service.
Upon arrival, the students were greeted by ranks of the GDF and taken on a guided tour of several key units, including the GDF Band Corps, the Medical Corps, and the Drone Department. At each stop, the young visitors were given engaging presentations about the history, function, and daily activities of the respective units.

At the Band Corps, students enjoyed musical demonstrations showcasing the discipline and precision of military musicians. The visit to the Medical Corps allowed them to learn about the essential role of military medics in providing care and supporting humanitarian efforts. Meanwhile, at the Drone Department, students were introduced to modern technology and its importance in surveillance and operations.
Throughout the visit, the students interacted enthusiastically with officers and ranks, asking questions and gaining insights into military life, teamwork, and service to country. Many expressed admiration for the soldiers and an interest in one day joining the Force.
The GDF reaffirmed its commitment to supporting national education through outreach initiatives that inspire youth, foster patriotism, and strengthen the bond between the Force and the communities it serves.
