Private (PTE) Lashelle Lewis’ journey from her hometown of New Amsterdam to the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) Band Corps is a testament to passion and perseverance. Enlisting in 2023, she transformed her love for music into a fulfilling career, blending her artistic talents with service to the nation.

PTE Lewis joined the GDF to continue playing music while gaining financial stability. Since then, she has traveled across Guyana, performing at prestigious events she never imagined being part of. She describes playing at national parades and ceremonies as both challenging and rewarding, offering personal and professional growth.

As an instrumentalist in the band, PTE Lewis plays the E-flat Alto Saxophone. She is also certified in Grade 1 Music Theory by the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM). Her dedication to her craft has earned her the respect and mentorship of her colleagues, who are primarily male. She values the support and guidance of her seniors and fellow musicians, acknowledging that they have contributed significantly to her development as both a soldier and a musician.

Through her work with the GDF Band Corps, PTE Lewis is not just playing music, she is contributing to the spirit and pride of Guyana. She stands as an inspiration, demonstrating how dedication to passion and country can create something extraordinary.
