The Chief of Defence Staff, Brigadier Omar Khan, MSS, along with the officers and ranks of the Guyana Defence Force, extends sincere congratulations to Major Dwighton Bess on the successful completion of the highly regarded Command and General Staff Officer Course (CGSOC) at the United States Army Command and General Staff College, Fort Leavenworth, Kansas.
The year-long course, which ran from June 2024 to June 2025, is internationally recognised for developing mid-level officers into strategic leaders capable of operating in complex joint and multinational environments. Participants are trained in large-scale combat operations, operational planning, and interagency coordination.

Major Bess distinguished himself not only by completing the rigorous core curriculum but also by earning two additional certificates , one in National Security Policy and Strategy and another in Inter-Agency Studies, further broadening his expertise in contemporary security matters.
He was one of 139 international military officers selected from 93 countries, and among a full cohort of nearly 1,000 students. His performance and professionalism were a source of pride for the Guyana Defence Force and a testament to his personal dedication.
Reflecting on his accomplishment, Chief of Defence Staff, Brigadier Omar Khan, noted that Major Bess’s success reflects the GDF’s ongoing pursuit of excellence. “He has represented Guyana and the GDF with distinction and returns equipped with the knowledge and perspective to strengthen the Force at a strategic level,” he said.
The Guyana Defence Force applauds Major Bess on this significant milestone and looks forward to his continued service and leadership as the organisation advances its strategic objectives at home and within the region.
