Sixteen junior officers have officially commenced training on the Junior Command and Staff Course (JCSC) 33, an intensive 15-week training programme aimed at preparing them for the demands of leadership and staff appointments.

The course represents a significant milestone in the officers’ professional development and is designed to build strategic awareness, enhance decision-making, and strengthen leadership competencies through a combination of theoretical instruction and practical exercises.

Delivering the feature address at the opening ceremony on Tuesday, Colonel General Staff, Captain (Coast Guard) Vernon Burnett, MSM told the Officers that their successful completion of this course will mark a formative chapter in their careers.

He underscored the transformative nature of the training, encouraging participants to embrace the process with dedication. “This course is not simply academic. It is intended to develop your ability to think critically, lead effectively, and act with integrity under pressure,” he noted.

Captain (CG) Burnett explained that the training aims to bridge the gap between the current operational experiences of the young officers and the broader, more complex demands of command and staff responsibilities.

Throughout the duration of the programme, officers will engage in a demanding schedule covering modules such as Minor Staff Duties, Command and Leadership, Military Law, Peace Operations, Cyber Warfare, and Internal Security Operations. Training will be delivered through case studies, simulations, group discussions, and field exercises. All these modules are structured to foster critical thinking and operational effectiveness.

JCSC remains a cornerstone in the professional development of junior officers, as such it aims at ensuring that they are equipped with the knowledge, discipline, and confidence required to meet both current and future operational demands.
