The newly promoted Ensigns of the Standard Officer Course (SOC) Number 56 took centre stage, delivering several dynamic and captivating Ensign Day displays at the Colonel Ulric Pilgrim Officer Cadet School (CUPOCS), Base Camp Stephenson, Timehri, on Sunday October 6,2024.
Among the distinguished guests in attendance were His Excellency Dr Mohamed Irfaan Ali, President and Commander in Chief , Chief of Defence Staff, Brigadier Omar Khan, MSS, National Security Advisor, Captain Gerald Goveia, Colonel Vembu Shankar from the Indian Army, Commissioner of Police (ag), Commissioner Clifton Hicken, Director of Prisons, Nicklon Elliot, Director of the National Intelligence and Security Agency, Colonel Sheldon Howell, other Senior Officers of GDF, and proud family members of the Ensigns.

The event offered an unforgettable showcase of military precision, skill, and discipline.
The many thrilling military displays included a flawless Silent Drill Display executed by the Ensigns, followed by a high-energy Military Martial Arts demonstration and an impressive Physical Training Exhibition. Guests also enjoyed a mini expo, where military kits and equipment, weapons, jungle survival tools such as traps and improvised shelters, and a display of jungle fruits were exhibited. The day’s highlight was the Falling Plate Shoot display on the range, with family members cheering enthusiastically as the Ensigns demonstrated their marksmanship.
The day’s events concluded with an obstacle course challenge, a rappelling exercise, and a simple reception where the President and Chief of Defence Staff interacted with the Ensigns and their families.
The first year of SOC training is a transformative journey, with 70% of the curriculum focused on physical conditioning. This rigorous training program is designed to mold civilians into physically fit, disciplined, and exemplary leaders.
