The Chief of Defence Staff, Brigadier Omar Khan, MSS, recently met with the Honourable Minister of Education, Sonia Parag, and a delegation from the Ministry to discuss a national directive from His Excellency, President Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali, aimed at enhancing Physical Education across schools in Guyana.
Brigadier Khan was joined by key members of the GDF team, including Colonel General Staff, Colonel Kenlloyd Roberts, MSM; Staff Officer One – General Three, Training and Operations, Colonel Julian Archer; and Personal Assistant to the Chief of Defence Staff, Captain Kevveon Lewis. Together, they advanced plans to support the planning and implementation of this important national programme.
Minister Parag was accompanied by Chief Education Officer, Mr. Saddam Hussain; Advisor – Tertiary Education Reform, Dr. Kofi Dalrymple; Chief Planning Officer, Mrs. Mischka White-Griffith; Deputy CEO – Administration, Ms. Tiffany Harvey; and Head of Allied Arts, Mr. Nicholas Fraser.

This programme recognizes the critical role that physical fitness, discipline, and healthy living are critical in shaping the future of our young people. In line with the President’s vision , the GDF will play an integral role in both the planning and implementation of the initiative.
While the GDF’s primary role is national defence and security, this partnership demonstrates our commitment to broader national development. By investing in the health and wellbeing of school children, the GDF is contributing to a stronger, healthier, and more resilient Guyana.
