National Defence Institute

The mission of the National Defence Institute is to educate joint services officers and their civilian counterparts using a defence, security, and development-focused curriculum delivered in a civil-military context, better equipping them to assume mid- to senior-level operational and strategic roles within their parent organisations.

Colonel Ulric Pilgrim Officer Cadet School (CUPOCS)

The Colonel John Clarke Military School represents a cornerstone institution in Guyana’s defense infrastructure, providing essential training that transforms civilians into capable military personnel ready to defend their nation. As the primary training facility for the Guyana Defence Force, the school not only imparts technical military skills but also instills the values and standards that define Guyana’s military ethos.

Colonel Robert Mitchell Jungle and Amphibious Training (JATS)

The Jungle and Amphibious Training School (JATS) is the premier training centre for jungle warfare within the Guyana Defence Force. Located in the heart of the rainforest, JATS delivers specialised instruction in survival, mobility, combat, and leadership under extreme environmental conditions. The school prepares personnel—both domestic and international—for operations in challenging terrain, making it a cornerstone of operational readiness and regional defence cooperation.

Marine Training

Maritime Training forms the foundation of operational readiness within the Coast Guard. Through specialised instruction in seamanship, navigation, maritime law enforcement, and coastal defence operations, personnel are prepared to operate effectively in Guyana’s inland waters, coastline, and Exclusive Economic Zone. Training emphasises discipline, safety, and interoperability, ensuring crews are capable of safeguarding the nation’s maritime interests.

Colonel Cecil Martindale Command and Staff School

Command and Staff Training equips officers with the knowledge, leadership skills, and strategic insight required to plan, direct, and support military operations at the tactical and operational levels. The programme focuses on doctrine, joint operations, decision-making, and command responsibilities, preparing leaders to serve effectively in complex and dynamic operational environments.

Colonel Desmond Roberts Skills School

The Skill-at-Arms Training School is the central hub for weapons training and marksmanship within the Guyana Defence Force. It provides professional instruction in the safe handling, maintenance, and effective use of a wide range of infantry weapons. It plays a critical role in developing precision, discipline, and combat readiness across all ranks, ensuring that every soldier meets the high standards required for operational effectiveness.
