Defence Headquarters
Defence Headquarters serves as the strategic nerve centre of the Guyana Defence Force. It provides command, coordination, and oversight of all operational, administrative, and support elements of the Force. From this location, senior leadership formulates policy, directs operations, and ensures the effective execution of the Defence Force’s mandate in safeguarding national security and supporting the interests of the Republic.
Combat

1 Infantry Battalion
The Role of the 1st Infantry Battalion is to defeat the enemy by the skilful use of firepower and manoeuvre by day or night in any weather or terrain.
The 1st Infantry Battalion is one of the Guyana Defence Force’s main combat units and it has the responsibility of maintaining the territorial integrity of Guyana, assisting the civil powers in the maintenance of law and order while at the said time, contributing to economic development wherever possible within Guyana.

2 Infantry Battalion
The National Reserve Battalion is tasked with maintaining a reservoir of trained Reservists capable of augmenting the regular Force when required. Its role is pivotal in reinforcing national defence capacity, ensuring that strategic reserves are readily available to support operational deployments and contingency responses.
In addition to its military function, the Battalion provides a core of specialists for civil defence missions, contributing critical skills and support during national emergencies, humanitarian operations, and disaster response. Through ongoing training and integration with regular units, the National Reserve remains an essential pillar of national resilience and readiness.

3 Infantry Battalion
The 3 Infantry Battalion provides security and defence along Guyana’s coastal regions and inland waterways. It conducts surveillance, patrols, and rapid response operations to deter and respond to threats affecting national interests. The Battalion is also mandated to enforce all maritime laws on and under the high seas and waters subject to the jurisdiction of Guyana, working in close coordination with the Coast Guard and other law enforcement agencies to uphold national sovereignty and maritime security.

3 1 Special Force Battalion
The Special Forces Battalion is a highly trained unit capable of conducting specialised operations including reconnaissance, direct action, and counter-terrorism. Operating in small teams, it delivers strategic effects through agility, precision, and adaptability in complex environments.

Coast Guard
The Coast Guard is the maritime arm of the Guyana Defence Force, tasked with safeguarding the nation’s waters and enforcing maritime law. Through continuous surveillance of the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), it protects Guyana’s maritime interests and deters illicit activity. The Coast Guard also conducts joint operations in support of land forces, contributing to national defence, territorial integrity, and regional stability.
Combat Support

Artillery Company
The Artillery Company provides fire support to ground forces through the operation of indirect fire weapons. It enhances battlefield effectiveness by delivering accurate and timely firepower in support of manoeuvre elements during training and operations.

4 Engineer Battalion
The Engineer Battalion is responsible for combat engineering and national infrastructure support. It undertakes tasks such as mobility, survivability, and construction, including roads, bridges, and defensive positions—directly enabling operational success and national development.

Air Corps
The Air Corps delivers critical aerial capabilities in support of national defence, disaster response, and logistics. It operates rotary and fixed-wing assets for transport, surveillance, reconnaissance, and medical evacuations, providing the Force with operational reach and flexibility.

Intelligence Corps
The Intelligence Corps provides timely, accurate, and relevant information to support military decision-making and operational planning. It is tasked with collecting, analysing, and disseminating intelligence to enhance situational awareness and national security across all domains.

Training Corps
The Training Corps is responsible for the foundational development and continuous professional education of all ranks within the Guyana Defence Force. Through structured courses and leadership programmes, the Corps prepares personnel to meet the physical, technical, and ethical demands of military service.
Combat Service Support

5 Service Support Battalion
The Service Support Battalion, is the supply and logistics arm of the Guyana Defence Force. It is responsible for the procurement, storage, maintenance, and distribution of military equipment, ammunition, uniforms, and general stores. As a key enabler of operational readiness, the Corps ensures that frontline units are resourced and sustained across all phases of deployment, both in peacetime and during operations.

Medical Corps
The Medical Corps provides vital health services to the Guyana Defence Force, delivering medical care, emergency support, and health readiness across all units. From routine care to operational medical support in the field, the Corps plays a critical role in preserving the wellbeing and combat effectiveness of the Force.

Band Corps
The Band Corps is the ceremonial and musical arm of the Guyana Defence Force. It supports national events, military parades, and official functions, fostering morale and tradition through music. The Band Corps also serves as a bridge between the military and the public, promoting national pride and unity.

Agricultural Corps
The Agriculture Corps contributes to the sustainability and resilience of the Defence Force through agricultural production and food security initiatives. It manages key farming operations and supports national development by promoting agricultural skills and resource management within the Force.
