Serving with Honour. Guided by Values.
Serving with Honour. Guided by Values.
The Defence Force is more than an organisation; it is a brotherhood and sisterhood. United by common values and shared challenges, every soldier, sailor, and airman learns that success is never achieved alone — it is earned together
Values
Officers and soldiers must display dedication and discipline in performing their duty, whatever the difficulties or dangers. They must agree to lay down their lives, if necessary, to achieve the mission. Duty is the most important value in the Guyana Defence Force.
Officers and soldiers must obey all lawful orders issued to them by commanders, especially under tough conditions. They must display trust and confidence in the orders given and in the commander who gave them. Their discipline will enable the mission to be successful.
Officers and soldiers are always citizens.
They are distinguished by their uniform and have a duty to wear it proudly. Their positive identity will contribute to the public’s confidence in the Force – individually and collectively – that their security is assured. They must never dishonour their uniform.
Officers and soldiers must be honest and truthful. This will contribute to trust in the chain of command and ultimately benefit the mission and instill confidence in the citizens of the state. A dishonest and untruthful officer or soldier is a threat to the mission and the Guyana Defence Force.
Officers and soldiers must continuously display allegiance to the State and confidence in their comrades-in-arms.
Loyalty requires officers and soldiers to obey all orders issued to them and to issue lawful orders to those under their charge. Loyalty also means that they must show care and concern for those under their charge at all times.
Officers and soldiers are required to manage the Force’s assets in accordance with the standards, regulations, and operating procedures published. They are therefore accountable for all their actions.
This means that they are not to create any unauthorised debts for the Force, and they must also effectively manage their personal financial affairs. The financial and physical assets of the Force belong to the Force and the people of Guyana. They are not private property and are not to be misappropriated, fraudulently converted, or put to personal use/benefit.

Primarily, we are not to use any methods of torture whatsoever, excessive force, or any inhumane means to intimidate and (or) to gain any advantage over any enemy combatant or citizen of the state.
Officers and soldiers must first uphold the rights of others before claiming their own rights. This is the hallmark of civic duty. This will cause citizens to put their trust in the Force.
Officers and soldiers are required to act responsibly at all times when socializing. You are not allowed to drink alcohol while on duty, when wearing your uniform in public, and on operations or deployment.
Officers and soldiers are not allowed to drive vehicles under the influence of alcohol or cause someone under their command to drive under the influence of alcohol or drive above the prescribed speed limits. The use of illegal drugs is also strictly prohibited.
Officers, Warrant Officers, and Senior Non-Commissioned Officers are prohibited from having any improper relationships with other ranks, whether sexual or otherwise.
Officers and Soldiers must respect each other. They are to avoid name-calling and addressing their fellow service personnel by ethnicity. Women are to be given equal opportunity and respected by their male counterparts. No attempt to abuse
