The Guyana Defence Force (GDF) Medical Laboratory has been officially recertified under the GYS 170/2021 Standard by the Guyana National Bureau of Standards (GNBS). The recertification, valid for two years, was awarded during a ceremony on Friday, November 29, 2024, at Base Camp Ayanganna.
The GYS 170 Standard outlines the general requirements for laboratory operations, ensuring high-quality and reliable results. Over the past two years, the GDF Laboratory underwent three surveillance assessments and one renewal process to maintain its certification.

During the ceremony, the GNBS Head of Certification, Mr. Keon Rankin, and Technical Officer Two, Ms. Rosmarie Liliah-Persaud, presented the plaque and certificate to the Force Medical Officer (FMO), Lieutenant Colonel Dr. Notoya Lewis-Frank, and the GDF Laboratory Supervisor, Ms. Bonita Richards.
Following the presentation, the GNBS team toured the laboratory and placed the certification sticker on the Medical Centre’s doors, signifying the lab’s compliance with national standards.

In her remarks, FMO Lt Col Dr. Lewis-Frank congratulated the laboratory team on their unwavering commitment to quality service. She emphasised that the recertification underscores the lab’s technical competence and ability to consistently deliver accurate, reliable results.
This achievement reflects GDF’s dedication to maintaining excellence in all areas of its operations and ensuring the highest standards in medical and laboratory services.
