YOUNG OFFICER EMBARKS ON SCHOLARSHIP IN ROMANIA

Guyana Defence Force Lieutenant Terrence De Peana, will in a few weeks, depart Guyana for Romania where he will pursue a Masters of Engineering – Electrical Engineering, at the Politehnica University of Bucharest.

The young Officer was granted the scholarship from the Government of Romania due to outstanding performance during his academic years at the University of Guyana.

Lieutenant De Peana, who hails from Tucville, Georgetown, attended the Brickdam Secondary and St Roses High schools and then completed a Diploma in Geological Engineering at the University of Guyana. He then enlisted in the Guyana Defence Force and underwent training on the Standard Officer Course 49 in 2016.

In 2019, he successfully completed an Associate of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering and was awarded the Best Electrical Engineering Student award from the Guyana Association of Professional Engineers as well as the Best Student award from the Faculty of Technology. He is currently a member of the Force’s Engineer Battalion.
In 2022, Lieutenant De Peana graduated with distinction from the University of Guyana with a Bachelor of Science (Electrical Engineering).
Lieutenant De Peana, is eagerly looking forward to his period of training in Romania.
“My drive comes from a desire to promote career development in this field. I have a lot of plans for the Force in terms of bringing Guyana’s standards and codes as well as a full uplift of the Force’s power systems. I don’t expect that this course will be a walk over but I know that with great dedication I will get through. The values and standards instilled in me through my training in the GDF will ensure my success,” he said.
The programme will run for 3 years, the first of which will be studies in the Romanian Language.
