Lieutenant Colonel Sean Frank Welcome, a dedicated member of the Guyana Defence Force, enlisted on 13th May 1996, completing the Standard Officer Course Number 29. He was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant on 24th April 1997. His first assignment was Platoon Commander in the First Infantry Battalion.

Demonstrating versatility, he took on instructional roles and held key positions, including Troop Commander of the 31 Special Forces Squadron and Intelligence/Operations Officer. Notable roles included Principal Instructor at the Colonel Ulric Pilgrim Officer Cadet School, Officer Commanding of the General Personnel Department, and Staff Officer Two General Three – Operations.

In 2007, he concluded full-time military service, returning in 2018 as a Reserve Officer. Advocating for nationwide reservist recruitment, he led the Reserve Battalion with inspirational leadership, surpassing standards and leaving a lasting legacy.

In addition to military achievements, Lieutenant Colonel Welcome pursued academic excellence, earning a Bachelor of Science in Communications Studies from the University of Guyana in 2014 and completing the Inaugural Master’s programme in Strategic Development Studies at the University of Guyana in November.
