CHIEF OF DEFENCE STAFF VISITS PARUIMA VILLAGE

Written by

The Chief of Defence Staff, Brigadier Omar Khan, MSS, continued his outreach to Guyana’s frontier communities with a visit to Paruima, a vibrant Upper Mazaruni village known for its rich cultural traditions and strong communal ties.

While in Paruima, Brigadier Khan met with Mr. Lee Williams, Toshao of the village, along with other village leaders and supporting security personnel. These engagements offered a meaningful opportunity for open dialogue on the community’s concerns and goals.

He also visited schools in the village, where he interacted warmly with students and educators. These exchanges underscored the importance of education in building national resilience and fostering development in Guyana’s remote regions.

With the nation’s 59th Independence Anniversary approaching, the visit was further strengthened by the Guyana Defence Force (GDF)-led initiative to mount and distribute the Golden Arrowhead throughout Paruima. This carried deep symbolic value, honoring our sovereignty, national pride, and the enduring spirit of independence.

The GDF remains steadfast beside our citizens, guarding the promise of independence with deep resolve and patriotic duty. The visit was a clear demonstration that every citizen matters, and that the Force stands firm in defence of every inch of Guyana and all Guyanese.
