The Chief of Defence Staff, Officers and Ranks of the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) extend heartfelt congratulations to Warrant Officer Class One (WO1) Cleveland O’Brian on his successful completion of the United States Army Sergeants Major Course, conducted at the Non-Commissioner Officer (NCO)Leadership Center of Excellence and Sergeants Major Academy, Fort Bliss, Texas.
WO 1 O’Brian was among 587 students from several countries who participated in the intensive programme which ran from May 19, 2024, to June 13, 2025. He earned a Diploma and an Undergraduate Certificate in Leadership and Workforce Development. In addition, he completed a pre-course certification and was awarded the NCO Leadership Center of Excellence badge, signifying his outstanding achievement and readiness for senior enlisted leadership.

The curriculum was specifically designed to prepare senior enlisted leaders for strategic roles across company, battalion, brigade, corps, and division levels. It emphasized writing, critical thinking, strategic communication, and advising commanders on operational and administrative issues
WO1 O’ Brian’s successful completion of the course not only reflects his personal commitment to excellence but also represents the GDF’s strategic thrust to cultivate a highly competent and professional Non-Commissioned Officer Corps. His accomplishment demonstrates the Force’s investment in advanced military education and the development of senior enlisted leaders with global exposure.
This achievement further strengthens the partnership between the GDF and the United States Armed Forces, particularly in leadership development and institutional collaboration.
