COAST GUARD RETAINS INTER-UNIT BOXING CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE

The Guyana Defence Force (GDF) brought the curtains down on its 60th Anniversary Inter-Unit Novice Boxing Championship with a thrilling display of skill, stamina, and a flurry of fistic fury, as the Ratings of the Coast Guard pummeled their way to victory.

The finals, hosted at the Base Camp Ayanganna Auditorium, featured twelve bouts, including an exhibition match and two fiercely contested female matches. The event showcased not only the GDF’s investment in physical fitness and competitive discipline, but also its commitment to inclusivity and the development of talent across all ranks.

In attendance were Chief of Defence Staff Brigadier Omar Khan, MSS, Unit Commanders, guests, and supporters from various bases. Their presence energized the auditorium with spirited cheers and unwavering encouragement. The ring pulsed with intensity and camaraderie as each fighter stepped in not only to test their mettle, but to proudly represent the honor and spirit of their formations.

Emerging as overall champions, the Ratings of the GDF Coast Guard dominated the ring with a combination of resilience, precision, and determination. They were followed closely by the Guyana National Reserve in second place, while the 31 Special Forces Battalion and the 3 Infantry Battalion tied for third after impressive performances.

As the Coast Guard hoisted the championship trophy once more, they solidified their reputation as a formidable force at sea and in the ring.
