The Guyana Defence Force (GDF) has successfully concluded two major leadership training programmes , the Platoon Sergeants’ Course (PSC) and the Section Commanders’ Course (SCC), aimed at advancing tactical command and strengthening Non-Commissioned leadership. Conducted over twelve weeks at the Colonel John Clarke Military School, Tacama, the courses saw 108 ranks graduating, including 35 from the PSC and 73 from the SCC.
The PSC focused on developing the leadership, instructional, and administrative competencies of Senior Non-Commissioned Officers to effectively lead an Infantry Platoon in both peacetime and limited war. Sergeant (SGT) Adrian Alleyne was named Best Graduating Student and Best Shot, followed by SGT Ronald Nurse as Runner-up. Other top awards went to SGT Antione Hopkinson for Best Military Knowledge and SGT Jemoul Chisholm for Best Drill and Best Fitness.
The SCC equipped junior leaders to command and administer an Infantry Section under operational conditions, emphasizing leadership, tactics, and navigation. Leading Rating (LR) Alden Lawrence was named Best Graduating Student, with Corporal (CPL) Omalie Fraser as Runner-up. LR Shaquilla Sharpe received Best Military Knowledge, CPL Tevin Azore Best Shot, CPL Akeam Sears Best Drill, and CPL Junior Lutchman Best Fitness.
These achievements reaffirm the GDF’s commitment to continuous professional development and the cultivation of confident, disciplined leaders dedicated to service and excellence.
