GDF RANKS DEPLOYED TO ASSIST LIMA, ESSEQUIBO RESIDENTS FOLLOWING SEVERE WIND DAMAGE

The Guyana Defence Force (GDF) has commenced humanitarian assistance efforts in Lima, Essequibo, after several homes were severely damaged by high winds on Monday, November 3, 2025.

The response followed an emergency meeting convened in the Regional Democratic Council (RDC) Boardroom, Region No. 2. The meeting was chaired by the Regional Chairman and attended by representatives of the GDF, local government officials, and other regional authorities.

Second Lieutenant Blair led a team of ranks from the 3rd Infantry Battalion along with personnel from the 4 Engineer Battalion. The deployed ranks are currently conducting repair and reconstruction works on a total of ten homes within the community. Assessments confirmed that eight of the homes were partially damaged while two were completely destroyed.

The operation is expected to span seven days, with continuous coordination between GDF ranks, regional officials, and affected residents to ensure the timely restoration of safe living conditions.
