The Guyana Defence Force (GDF), in partnership with the U.S. Embassy Cross Functional Team (CFT) and the Global Surgical Medical Support Group (GSMSG), successfully concluded a three-day advanced medical training program at the Coast Guard Training Base in Kingston.
The initiative aimed to enhance the medical proficiency of GDF ranks by providing hands-on training with cutting-edge medical technology. Throughout the intensive training, participants engaged with advanced medical equipment designed to improve their ability to respond to both combat-related injuries and humanitarian medical emergencies.
A key feature of the training was the introduction of NATO Virtual Reality (VR) medical testing equipment, which included Vantari Oculus headsets and a robotic surgical device. This VR technology provided an immersive, hands-on learning experience, allowing trainees to practice life-saving procedures in a controlled, virtual environment. The VR equipment assessed participants’ proficiency by assigning scores based on their performance in virtual medical procedures.
This collaboration underscored the commitment of the GDF and its partners to enhance the medical readiness of its personnel. As a result of the training, participants not only improved their individual skills but also contributed to the overall strengthening of the GDF’s medical response capabilities.
This successful training program has set precedence for future military-medical collaborations, highlighting how technology-driven solutions can revolutionise battlefield and humanitarian medical response.
