The Guyana Defence Force (GDF) has hailed its successful involvement in the recently concluded Lesser Antilles Medical Assistance Team (LAMAT) 2025 mission, led by the United States, as a landmark moment in regional defence medical cooperation. The mission, carried out over a significant period, brought together U.S. military medical personnel and their Guyanese counterparts in a coordinated effort to strengthen national healthcare delivery and deepen military-to-military collaboration.

GDF’s participation was particularly impactful in advancing its internal medical readiness. Training engagements covered a range of emergency care techniques. Notably, Combat Life Saving Level/Advanced training was conducted, providing crucial life-saving skills to GDF personnel. Tactical Combat Casualty Care training was conducted with members of the Grade 2 Medical Assistant Course, while Basic First Aid and All Servicemen-level Tactical First Aid were provided to students from the Standard Officer Course #57 and the Senior Leadership Course 2025-01.

A major highlight of the engagement was the inaugural Subject Matter Expert Exchange (SMEE) with United States Air Force’s Air Evacuation and MEDEVAC Operations staff. This exchange has laid the groundwork for future collaboration in areas such as clinical training, medical logistics, and healthcare administration, pointing to a promising path for sustainable bilateral engagement.

As the Force continues to modernize its medical capabilities, it remains committed to deepening its partnership with LAMAT and the wider U.S. military medical community ensuring greater service to both its personnel and the nation at large.
