As part of its observance of Medical Laboratory Professionals Week (MLPW), the Guyana Defence Force (GDF), through its Medical Laboratory and in collaboration with the National Blood Transfusion Service of Guyana, hosted a blood drive today at Base Camp Ayanganna.

The initiative, led by Headquarters Medical Corps Laboratory Supervisor Ms. Bonita Richards, saw officers and ranks turning out in strong support of the lifesaving effort, reinforcing the Force’s enduring commitment to national service beyond the operational environment.

At the conclusion of the exercise, a total of 43 units of blood were collected, with additional drives scheduled across other bases. With each unit having the potential to save up to three lives, these contributions represent a meaningful boost to the country’s blood reserves and overall medical response capacity.

Force Medical Officer, Lieutenant Colonel Dr. Notoya Lewis-Frank, noted that the GDF’s continued participation in blood donation initiatives underscores its role in safeguarding life not only during operations but also in peacetime. She emphasised that voluntary contributions by officers and ranks reflect a strong sense of duty and service, directly supporting the nation’s healthcare system.

Observed under the theme, “Lab Story: To Infinity and Beyond for our Patients,” MLPW highlights the dedication, precision, and teamwork of laboratory professionals, whose work remains critical to effective healthcare delivery.
