The Guyana Defence Force (GDF) joined national partners under the Men on a Mission (MoM) initiative for the first in a series of village visits, held in Albion, Region Six.
The activity marked a meaningful step toward strengthening communities through mentorship, health awareness, and positive male engagement.

The event brought together local leaders, government representatives, and members of the Force to facilitate open discussions with men and boys, focusing on the importance of responsible decision-making, wellness, and community involvement.
Among those in attendance were Regional Chairman Mr. David Armogan; Regional Executive Officer, Assistant Commissioner Marcus; MoM National Coordinator Lieutenant Colonel B. Murli; and MoM Medical Coordinator Dr. Sarwan Jagnaraine.
During his feature remarks, Chief of Defence Staff, Brigadier Omar Khan, MSS, underscored the power of choice and its lasting impact on individual and national development. He reminded participants that each decision, no matter how small, shapes one’s path and contributes to the community’s strength.
“Our aim is not just to talk about change but to live it,” Brigadier Khan stated. “Every man here has the power to lead, to uplift, and to make a difference. The choices we make today will determine the kind of future we build, for our families, our communities, and our country.”

The program also featured a health and wellness session that addressed key aspects of men’s overall well-being. Dr. Daymeon Wills delivered a Motivational Talk. Ms. Melena Williams, Senior Social Worker from the Mental Health Unit, presented on Mental Health. Dr. Jagnaraine, a MoM Executive Member, discussed Men’s Health, highlighting preventative care and the importance of regular check-ups in maintaining long-term vitality.
Participants later engaged in breakout group discussions, a cookout featuring a variety of curries, and practical demonstrations by the Guyana Fire Service on firefighting techniques and fire engine operations.
The day concluded with friendly games of cricket, dominoes, and table tennis that fostered camaraderie and teamwork among participants.
There are plans to continue these village engagements across the country, with upcoming visits aimed at deepening the impact of the MoM initiative, promoting male empowerment, and building stronger, safer communities throughout Guyana.
