The Guyana Defence Force on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, hosted a Military Partners Day at the Officers’ Mess, Base Camp Ayanganna, to recognise and celebrate the valued defence relationships that Guyana shares with friendly nations.
The ceremony formed part of the GDF’s 60th Anniversary observances and brought together representatives from Belize, Brazil, Canada, China, Colombia, Dominica Republic, France, India, Suriname, the United Kingdom, the United States, Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, St Kitts and Nevis and representatives of the Regional Security System Headquarters (RSS), along with Ambassador and Defence officials of the represented nations, Branch Heads, Senior Officers, and Warrant Officers of the Force.
The evening featured presentations reflecting on the longstanding diplomatic ties between Guyana and its partners, as well as the training and capacity-building opportunities made possible through international cooperation. Beneficiaries of these programmes highlighted how such engagements continue to strengthen the professionalism and operational capability of the GDF.
In his remarks, Chief of Defence Staff, Brigadier Omar Khan, MSS, underscored the importance of strong and principled partnerships, relationships that help prevent conflict, encourage shared learning, and enable the exchange of vital information to counter drug trafficking, transnational crime, and terrorism. He emphasised the value of collaborating to build capacity both within the region and beyond, noting that partner nations remain essential in supporting each other when responding to natural disasters and in fostering a proactive, resilient disaster-management framework.
Brigadier Khan also reaffirmed the mutual respect for sovereign space and the shared commitment to upholding democratic values that underpin these defence relationships.
As the GDF marks 60 years of service, the gathering served as a reminder of the vital role international partnerships continue to play in national security, regional stability, and the professional advancement of the Force.
The event concluded with an opportunity for military partners to socialise and further strengthen the bonds of friendship and cooperation.
